Record-Keeping

After a divorce it’s critical that you keep records pertaining to your divorce and any ongoing financial and/or legal commitments between your and your spouse well documented.  Examples of paperwork that you should retain copies of and file are:

  • Final divorce settlement paperwork
  • Child custody paperwork
  • Alimony arrangements
  • Tax returns

If you are the custodial parent, be sure to keep receipts for child-related expenses to petition the court for increased child support (in the event that your children require additional support or that your ex-spouse experiences a significant salary increase), or in the event that your ex-husband does not pay child support on time and in full.
